It's 'Bittersweet Chocolate and Almonds Day,' one that I can really (un)wrap my head around. After all, dense, dark and sweet chocolate has been often called 'the food of the gods.' Lucky gods, eh? The trees of this delicious delight, although native to South America, were brought to Mexico by the Mayans before being extensively cultivated by the Aztecs and Toltecs. Those cultures and many more since believe that chocolate in any form can be used to increase the ability to both give and receive love, as well as to enhance that same ability where money is concerned. And then we have almonds. Old tales tell that eating five almonds before drinking alcohol can prevent intoxication and drunkenness. Iranians use almonds to cure insomnia, while nursing mothers all over the world have been told that eating almonds can increase lactation while reducing headaches and guarding against the evil eye. The famous sleeping psychic Edgar Cayce said that eating three whole fresh almonds a day could keep cancer and other debilitating diseases at bay. What better marriage than a merger of these two magical foods? So indulge and enjoy on this day. Maybe we can change the axiom to 'a bittersweet chocolate and almond bar once a day will keep that ole doc away.' I said a mouthful there!

November may be the eleventh month on the Gregorian calendar, but it takes its name from the Latin word 'novem,' meaning -- what else -- nine. According to Feng Shui, the number nine is considered the most powerful number of the single digits as it signals that everything in life has reached its fullest potential and highest vibration. It represents and symbolizes the ability to manifest health, happiness and prosperity, this tradition's Three Great Blessings. On this day put nine coins of any denomination (three dimes, two nickels and four quarters or any combo thereof) into a red envelope and place under the welcome mat at the main entry to your living space. This adjustment will encourage many opportunities for big fortune and good luck to come directly to your door and then stay for a nine, um, I mean nice, long visit!

This day and consequent 'Bonfire Night' commemorate British subject Guy Fawkes' plot to blow Parliament and King James I off the face of the planet. Although Fawkes and his fellow conspirators had their own burning desires and reasons to set their intentions ablaze, the plan was eventually foiled before its final execution when Fawkes was found out and the plot was blown to smithereens. But something about his zeal and passion has obviously resonated, as Fawkes seems to have left a lasting mark on both history and pop culture as blazes and bonfires still take place in the British Isles on this night. Fawkes must have known his Feng Shui, since the philosophy says that using the fire element can make your name known and respected in the community at large. Guy might have his yearly bonfires, but you can heat up your own 'Q' factor simply by lighting nine red candles in the 'Fame' area of your home or office. This Feng Shui 101 cure promises to create both recognition and reward for any of your efforts, even if the opposition thinks it's closing in! Practice this adjustment and those who oppose will more than likely only meet with one word that Fawkes knew well: Kaboom!
